Congratulations to Deacero!

Marion has a systematic naming process for products, companies, book titles, etc. For Deacero, the new product name had to appeal to architects while also suggesting its use as a security fence. Marion’s creative team brainstormed about a hundred names, narrowed that list down and then created a survey to give to architects who then rated the top 16 names based on specific attributes. The winner was Designmaster!

And another winner on Saturday May 12, 2012 was the Houston Dynamo, who beat D.C. United, 1 to 0! Forever Orange!

This past weekend, The Marion Group and Baker Hughes teamed up and won the Men’s Doubles, Main Draw in Level B of the World Oilman’s Tennis Tournament.

The tournament was first held in 1977 and today is considered by the oil and gas industry to be a world-class event. The W.O.T.T. started with the simple desire to encourage people involved in the Houston oil and gas industry to network and build business relationships and a bit of fun while doing so.

The tennis tournament was held at the Houston Racquet Club. Our doubles team, Jeff Mysak of the Marion Group and Mack Michael of Baker Hughes played incredibly well and soared straight to victory. The Marion group is very proud of our team and was happy to participate and help sponsor the event.

This was so that the photographers who post from Flickr are always properly recognized and the image impossible to edit. If a photographer would prefer their images to be kept away from Pinterest, the share menu will be disabled.

Initially, Flickr allowed users to opt out of allowing their images to be pinned from the site in a bid to satisfy photographers worried about any potential infringement. However, Flickr has announced that images can directly be shared from Flickr to Pinterest in a way that means proper credit and link back to a photographer’s page is included. Images pinned from Flickr will now include the photographer’s name, title and link to the original photo.  This also includes photos pinned from other websites, as long as they are hosted on Flickr. Photographers who aren’t convinced of Pinterest’s amazingness, however, can still disable pinning.

Flickr is also influencing other websites to get on the Pinterest automatic attribution train YouTube, Behance and Vimeo. The new Pinterest button can be found in the share menu on Flickr, which allows users to share photo pages, favorites and groups. If you are a prolific pinner, the menu will change to prioritize the Pin It button.

With this new feature, having your photos on Flickr gives you much more certainty that you will be attributed when your photos are being shared on Pinterest. Happy Pinning!

The Crystal Awards is AMA Houston’s premier event, honoring Houston’s best marketing work. We are very honored to  be a finalist and we hope we win in the Best B-to-C Website category! The awards gala will be held on May 17, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Houston.

The finalists’ entries will be on display followed by a seated dinner and program when the winners are announced. Our team worked really hard on getting the entries to perfection. Until then, we will keep our fingers crossed!

April 18th, the Printing Industries of the Gulf Coast’s (PIGC) 2012 Graphic Excellence Awards (GEA) announced its winners and The Marion Group won Best in Category 14, Division 3 for Single-Sheet Brochure 4 or more for our client Clariant Mining Solutions.

We were entered by Houston printer, Southwest Precision Printers (SWP) for our brochure design services and we are very honored and grateful to accept this award!

This annual event was at The Crystal Ballroom in the Rice Hotel hosted by Printing Industries of the Gulf Coast, the regional affiliate of Printing Industries of America and featured four galleries – the da Vinci, Rembrandt, Michelangelo, and Monet – to showcase all the outstanding pieces in this year’s print and graphic design competition.

The Marion Group also participated in the SWP Printers 2012 Crawfish Boil  where we ate mudbugs and had a great time, as well as partook in the raffle, in which two of our employees were lucky enough to  win televisions!   Please be sure to check out some of the pictures from the Crawfish Boil below.
