Using QR Codes to Market Your Business

Sample QR codeQR (short for Quick Reference) codes are two-dimensional barcodes that consist of black modules arranged in a square pattern on a white background. Smart phone users can scan the image of the QR code to display text, contact information, or open a web page in the phone’s browser using a QR code app.

QR codes now appear in magazines, on signs, flyers, business cards, and are useful for just about any object for which users might need additional information. Japan has been using QR codes since 1994, and with the growing popularity of QR codes overseas, they are beginning to take hold in the United States. Several studies indicate that usage of QR codes in the U.S. has increased exponentially since they were first introduced here. Sears used QR codes in their 2010 holiday Wish Book and the new annual Sears Tools Catalog is populated with QR codes as well. So how can you use this technology to promote your business? Below are a few examples of what QR codes can do for your company:

Printed Ads: Allow customers to download contact information or link to a Google Maps location.

Catalogs: Link to additional product information such as specification sheets or instructional videos, dial in directly to your sales department.

Direct Mail: Link to your website, electronic catalog, or a form to request information.

Business Cards: Provide directions to your location, a link to your website, or access to a video from you or your company.

Contact The Marion Group to learn more about using QR codes and take your marketing outreach to the next level.

Do I really need a mobile site?

It’s no secret that mobile technology is starting to become more popular and some sites report that soon mobile devices will replace desktops as the computer of choice.

This is a perfect time for you to get a mobile version of your website. A mobile site is your website in an edited down version to mainly describe what a mobile user would need to know such as directions, phone number, products, services and any special deals you are promoting.

The way it works is when a user goes to yourdomain.com on a mobile device, a special redirect code directs the user to the mobile friendly site format.  Most people who use their phones in order to look at a site only have a minute to view whatever it is they need.  Therefore a mobile site allows them to view your information quickly, without a lot of scrolling side to side and up and down to find what they are looking for.

A few reasons why you should have a mobile site.

  1. Your  users are at some point going to view your site on a mobile device.
  2. Trends show that smartphones will soon be in the hands of most people.
  3. It’s a great way for you to reach your audience in a way that appeals to them.
  4. Mobile sites are quick to download and more user friendly than websites.
  5. All your SEO efforts for your regular site carry over to the mobile version if you set it up properly.

The Power of the PURL and Mobile Marketing

Sample Post Card with PURL and QR Code

…No, not the lovely, spherical gems, but valuable nonetheless.

PURLs are Personalize URLs (or microsites). A person enters their PURL into a browser and they are taken to a web page or microsite customized just for them. Typically used in conjunction with direct mail campaigns, PURLs are designed to increase the response rate of your marketing campaign.

PURLs can be printed on postcards such as the one shown, prompting the target customer to visit the site using the given URL. Recognizing their name, that customer is more likely to respond.

So why is this a good idea?

  1. A great way to create interest and curiosity.
  2. PURLs have been known to increase the conversion rate by 4-5 times than just direct mail campaigns alone.
  3. Higher conversion rates translates to lower cost per conversion
  4. When visitors log onto your site, you’re able to capture valuable data, allowing you to continually tailor your approach to your customers.

You can create an even more modern campaign by including a QR Code along with the PURL. Using their QR reader, smartphone users can go directly to the mobile version of the PURL with just a click of the camera. More on QR Codes…

The Right Logo for The Wright Company

Marion recently designed a new logo for Wright’s Well Control Services (WWCS), giving the company a completely new brand identity. Their new branding package includes their logo design (seen here), stationery, and a website which is soon-to-come.

While introducing Wright’s current services with a silhouette of an oil rig in a W-shaped window, the logo also reflects their history. The flame “dotting” the “I” in Wright’s, represents their start as a firefighting company.

Today, Wright’s provides specialty subsea and deep water well and pipeline services to offshore oil and gas operators and contractors in the Gulf of Mexico.

Journey through our graphic design portfolio to view Wright’s and other clients’ brand building products.

Team with Marion to create a new identity for your company, immersing your brand in our fully integrated brand experience.
